The secret to getting a lot of gigs.
Okay so what might be the secret to getting lots of gigs ?
This blog is for artists, musicians more so than venues or people wanting to book music.
Why do some musicians get more gigs than others?
Why do some artists make a lot more money than others?
Why are some people more successful than others?
Of course talent, natural talent has a lot to do with it and a persons drive and enthusiasm and general nature.
If a artist is the best in town, super talented. looks great, is in high demand they won’t have to try very hard to get work.
Work will come to them and that’s great
There are some musicians that don’t even have a website, never have.
Some have been playing for 20 years and the phone doesn’t stop ringing so that is a good position to be in, but that is a very small percentage of musicians that have that luxury.
That seems to work for a bunch of musicians I know for public gigs mostly not necessarily for private functions so much. In fact some of these guys get less private work that less talent acts that do a little promo and marketing work.
How much music work do you want?
How much money do you want to earn?
Do you want to have a day job?
What sort of lifestyle do you want?
These are all the things you need to ask yourself regarding music and your income from music and whether music is a hobby for you, a side hustle, or something more serious as in a lifestyle.
In any case if you want more gigs for any of those reasons here are a few tips on how you can get more work.
Promote yourself, make yourself known
Let’s break this down first of all you need to find a communication line a line or medium to communicate on to let people know about your service
Let’s list out some common mediums and communication lines.
Playing live in public a lot….in a variety of locations and venues.
Facebook
Instagram
Your own website
YouTube LinkedIn Twitter tick-tock
Websites for people looking to book gigs.SMS
Email
The phone
Twitch
Tick-tok
WhatsApp
Word-of-mouth
I’m sure you can think of many more but the point is to find lines of communication you can send a message out on.
Next step is to make yourself known. this is the real secret to getting lots of gigs, simply making yourself known – widely to many many people that might perhaps buy your service or employ you.
The secret tip that can double your bookings overnight, do you want to know what it is?
I’ve proven this over and over again by telling people to do this I do it myself – it works.
Send an email with your available dates every week (with dates listed from present time to 3 months ahead) to as many agents/bookers/venues for/anyone that has booked you/anyone you think might book you.
Build the email database every week with at least 50 agents, venues, bookers, I repeat at least 50… the more the better.
I personally sent out to 1100 emails every week and I’m growing that list every week and I make over 100k a year after musician expenses.
A Simple proactive action that will generate inquiries for you.
That’s basically where it starts is, out flowing en masse continually, continuously to a huge number of people.
If you keep doing that and you’re not doing it already you can double your income.
So what it means is that you’re contacting a lot of people every week.
you’re basically getting yourself in front of people waving your hand saying….
here I am hi….hi here I am, hi I’m still here, hi remember me etc, every week.
Every week send them out it works.
If you’d like more info on how to do this or some good formats etc drop me a line and I’ll tell you how. tim@crazyhorseentertainment.com.au
It’s this simple proactive action that will generate inquiries for you.
Now notice that’s just one of the things on the list above email, just one.
There are so many things you can do to promote yourself, I recommend your own website that looks good and is designed by an expert web designer to make you look awesome and make customers respond.
A good web designer has in mind what they want the browser to do what they want the customer to do when they’re reading your website.
The first thing people do is scroll down and scroll down until they take an action or click on something.
What do you want your customers to do? Think about that when designing your website.
You can write a blog a weekly blog about things in your industry about gigs you’ve done, tips for people, anything you like.
Then share the blog on Google my business and about five other platforms, that’s one other thing you can do.
Join websites that are basically agents for live musicians websites like Crowd Pleaser or any websites that sell music to people like booking agencies
List yourself on as many agents websites as you can you just want to get your name out there as much as you can.
In the next blog I’ll talk more specifically about the secret to getting lots of gigs and how to easily present yourself and what material you need for an agent to list you on their website and for you to present well on public websites.
And the specifics of sending out your available dates, how to present that and many more tips.
Bye for now and start making that email database and start promoting anyway you can…..remember that making yourself known and available is the secret to getting lots of gigs.
