A MUSIC VENUE that wants patrons to have a pleasant experience and a pleasant memory of a time spent at their venue must have friendly staff.
Staff attitude is vital. Only hire staff who have upbeat personalities and are service oriented and LIKE & SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC.

An organisation can only effectively train efficient people that can duplicate and follow instructions.
These people tend to be mostly of a cheerful and productive nature.
So to be trainable to really do a good job an organisation needs to HIRE THE RIGHT PEOPLE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
The best way to hire people is based on their past production record –
WHAT HAVE THEY ACTUALLY PRODUCED OR ACHIEVED.
How can you predict or estimate or evaluate a new persons potential?
In a job interview people naturally sell themselves and there is a lot of self promotion.
Also people like to say what THEY CAN DO and what they ARE GOING TO DO.
More important is WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.
Just like we like to hire trades people by word of mouth recommendation – Word of mouth is others saying what they HAVE DONE FOR THEM.
So a persons production record – actually what can be verified they have achieved, is the only FULL PROOF way of knowing what they might be ABLE TO DO IN THE FUTURE FOR YOUR ORGANISATION.
Hiring by personality and hunches and what a person SAYS THEY’VE DONE or CAN DO…….is not TRUE, it’s possibly TRUE but , how do you know?
What you do know for sure is ONLY WHAT THEY’VE DONE ELSEWHERE ALREADY…..if you are keen enough to make 1 or 2 phone calls to any referees and check!
So once you have great staff on board – ideally they LIKE AND SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC in your venue.
WHAT NOT TO DO: Bad examples I’ve actually seen in venues:
Low toned – non cheerful – very ‘serious’ staff attitude can destroy a venue through the day trade hours actually saying to daytime customers – “the music is all shit here”
Staff must also be welcoming to ‘new patrons’ – in some venue ’locals rule the roost and visitors are treated like a virus’
WHAT TO DEFINITELY DO: GREAT examples I’ve actually seen in venues:
People are somewhat like sheep sometimes – they will respond and be uplifted by the environment around them.
Super lively staff dancing behind the bar as they listen to the music and clapping every now & then after songs to encourage patrons.
This was just the nature of the staff – they were genuinely happy to be there and really looked liked they were having FUN.
I think this is the EASIEST & FASTEST way to create a really good VIBE – to have staff that genuinely love the music.
So put your most cheerful staff on to encourage a great vibe in the room!
Result – Having an uptone & professional staff attitude is cheapest form of advertising for your venue and live music promotions.
