Mick Fetch

By May 9, 2013

Mick Fetch is a full time musician who describes himself as a bit of an all rounder who just likes to have a good time with his audiences, enjoying a wide range of music which reflects in his repertoire.

My gigs consist mainly of covers because thats what people want to hear. Im getting a lot of positive feedback from audiences by just using my guitar for accompaniment and Im really enjoying throwing in the odd original and the freedom of not playing to backing tracks. The acoustic guitar is something people relate to so much easier than an unreal drum machine sound. Also, my repertoire has broadened a lot; Im playing stuff from Elvis through to Matchbox 20, Paul Kelly, Pete Murray, The Foo Fighters, Diesel, Screaming Jets, The Eagles and America. Picking good solid songs is the key to getting the crowds coming back to watch me play. Ive played in 50s rock and roll bands, country bands and retro cover bands and these have all been an influence in what I do today with just an acoustic guitar. he says.

After leaving popular Newcastle band Radio Ga Ga in 2005, Mick recorded a live DVD at the Duke in Newcastle and they are currently for sale at his shows. It was a lot of fun to play some songs with the musos Ive played with over the years. The whole DVD is a bit of a Mick Fetch musical history in a lot of ways. I think its a pretty honest indication of what I do at an everyday gig.

Mick is currently promoting his original CD Homecoming, aptly named for the full circle Micks music has taken over the years. This CD is a celebration of my affinity with the Mudgee area and its people and my early connections with traditional country music, Mick says. It was co-written by me and local Mudgee poet, Kevin Pye and recorded and produced in my studio at home. The recording process has been a steep learning curve at times, with me playing all the instruments; acoustic guitars, electric guitar, slide guitar, bass, harmonica, button accordion, all percussion and even the kazoo!!
