Steve Tonge Trio is a full-time, free-lance musician that has been performing in Australia and internationally, since 1992.
Steve is a long time member of Shannon Nolls touring band and performed with Adam Brand and a huge list of Australias top artists.
Steven has been performing in Australia and all around the world in Bars and Restaurants and has built up a large and versatile repetoire of music which allows him to cater for all walks of life and age demographics. Steve Tonge was born in Sydney and came from a family of musicians. His paternal grandparents were dominant figures in the music world both in Sydney and Wollongong during the late 40s and 50s. Stevens mother is also a professional pianist and accompanist and his father was a Violinist. Obviously, this background in music impacted heavily on his musical experiences. Steven first started learning to play the piano at the age of 7 and then after a few years he changed instruments and learned to play trumpet for the Parramatta City Brass Band.
At the age of 14 Steven discovered the guitar and in a few short years began to perform in and around Sydney professionally. Steven played in a number of rock bands. The most reputable was a band called Copeland that supported bands such as the Screaming Jets, The Choirboys, The Radiators, Spy vs Spy, Dave Graney, Blue bottle Kiss, Iota, Finiscad, 78 saab, and other reputable acts that were playing around Sydney at the time.
In the early 1990s Steven delved into the writing and recording side of music.
In 1995 he co-produced a bunch of songs for a singer called Morrie Khouri. He also got a bit of work writing jingles for community radio stations.
In 1998 he was approached by a film director and was recruited to compose music for an Australian comedy film called Murrabina. The project took 6 months to work, most of the compositions were co-written with a band.
In 2000, a musician by the name of Darren Nurick offered him a position in a musical duo to perform covers at Corporate functions, weddings, pubs and clubs in Sydney. The duo was called Darren and Steve and built up an excellent reputation in Sydney with the hotels, agencies and the punters. In 2005 the duo dis-banded, and Darren signed onto a recording contract in America.
Since 2005 Steve Tonge Trio has predominantly been performing as a soloist in Australia and Europe.
One of the busiest and hardest working solo act on the scene Steve can be seen belting out the hits in may local Sydney bars every week!
